No fooling, bud break begins in the Columbia Valley

Bud break is underway in the Columbia Valley. Ryan Driver, vineyard manager at Tertulia Cellars, saw bud break in Syrah at the winery's Elevation Vineyard in Walla Walla Valley on March 31st. Pictured here, this site is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Mountains and is notable for its fractured basalt soils.

Elevation saw bud break in Syrah on March 27th in 2020 and on April 9th in 2019. 

Meanwhile Sagemoor Vineyards vineyard manager Lacey Lybeck reported bud break beginning in Chardonnay at Dionysus Vineyard on April 1st. In 2019, bud break in Chardonnay began at Sagemoor on April 12th.
